How to use the wheeled nipper?

The wheeled nipper is an indispensable tool when working with glass mosaic. But how exactly do you use this tool? Mounted on the head of these special cutters are two wheels. The wheels do not turn. Nor are they meant to. With an Allen wrench, however, they are adjustable to ensure a new sharp cutting edge. When you squeeze with the pliers, the wheels just barely touch. If you clip a mosaic tile between them, that piece will break at the point where the wheels meet. The direction in which you cut determines the shape in which the glass tile breaks. You can do this with considerable precision, which makes working with the wheeled nipper very satisfying.

Holding and cutting

The wheeled nippers can be used by both right- and left-handed people. Hold the tool so that the wheels point inward. The further back you grip the pliers, the less pressure you need to apply to cut the tile. At first it may feel a little tense or uncomfortable, but again, practice makes perfect. When cutting, the pieces often pop off. To avoid encountering it everywhere later, it is advisable to hold your other hand loosely around it while cutting. You will then catch the pieces. Be aware that those loose pieces are sharp and can also release splinters. If you find it scary with your hand around it, you can also work with a cloth or tray, for example.
